Windows Defender Problem

Happy New Year!

I noticed a lot of people posted to their blogs over the christmas period i wasn’t one of them. I barely touched a computer over Christmas and new year. Mainly new to my nine month old daughter!

Last night my other half noticed an error message on my laptop. Something to do with Windows Defender.

As i was still “off-duty” i said i’d take a look tomorrow

However the first two support calls this morning reported every PC for two different companies with the same error

Application failed to initialise:

A problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop” 

After a bit of digging it suddenly dawned on me.

Windows Defender Beta 2 expired on 31st December 2006

I installed the final version from the Microsoft site and the problem seems to have disappeared

I’m looking to see if i can do the install via group policy but i’m not having much luck at the moment. Any help gets my thanks!
